What your computer downloads for the firmware of the Zune device is a .cab file. Inside this .cab file, there are three binary files: nk, recovery, and eboot.

After extracting the binary files, your computer then extracts all of te files in the binary files (CE executables and .dll's) and sync's them to your Zune device.

This firmware will not install itself or anything, it's merely for your inspecting pleasure.
