During classes at the University, we use wifi a lot, but the speed is so slow, we can't chat without a 2-3 minute lag time, so would Zune to PC be an option and better?

Not possible yet. Probably never.
But if you REALLY need long range you can take your zune apart and attach an antenna. (I strongly suggest you do not do that
)
