No this is not normal at all for both of you. Even my zune 30 can out run both of your zune 80. My zune 30 last up to 13hours of music or 16-20 hours of radio, 4 hours of video.
For zune 80, you should get about 20-24 hours of music and 4 hours of video. You should re-calibrate your battery meter so it doesn't cut the power at the wrong time. By re-calibrating your battery meter, you should gain around 10 hours of music playing time.
The steps to recalibrating battery meter are:
1) Drain the battery completely so the zune doesn't start or respond
2) Charge the battery until the battery meter is green.
