You couldn't be more wrong. The album is about a person, "The Patient", whose father used to take him to a parade when he was a child. This was his fondest memory, and he later finds out he has Cancer and is going to die. One of the beliefs of Gerard Way, My Chemical Romance's lead singer, is that death comes for you in the way you choose. The Patient happens to choose this parade, the Black Parade, and it then comes for him when it is his time.
My Chemical Romance isn't emo, and what you think of as "emo" isn't emo. Real emo is about being over emotional and getting insanely involved in those emotions in the song. My Chemical Romance gets the
rep as the "emo band" because they wear black... Anyone who thinks that anyone who wears a lot of black is emo is seriously ignorant and needs to do a bit more research beyond talking to your friend about why that person decides to shop at Hot Topic.
Stereotypes are stupid and misinformed 12 year olds make it even worse by trying to imitate the person who thinks they are emo because they dyed their hair black and shop at Hot Topic.
