I'll second the MediaMonkey option - it can even embed album art into the ID3 tags.
If you use mediamonkey to auto-tag, you can get it to just update certain fields (eg track, artist, album, album art, etc.) automatically and do the rest manually; you could do it all automatically or all manually.
If you go down the paying route, I've found Fixtunes to be a pretty good solution. It automatically finds song info and then you can just double check what it's found then it'll apply it. Doesn't find 100% of songs, but it does a pretty damn good job and saves a lot of time. Same can be said for MediaMonkey.
