If your computer doesn't have enough power to supply your zune, the zune wouldn't even connect. Heck, the zune wouldn't even connect if the length of wire from the USB chip to the zune is more than 1.2meter.
It's not the power supply, it's just that it's taking too much power. My PC is fine. And my USB Self-powered hub helps the Zune connect just fine.

Alternativaly, you could look for a 2 way usb cable, one that connects to say, an xbox, another part connects to the zune, and another part connects to the computer.

It would have enough power then. I once did that.
