Ever wonder what it's like to work for Microsoft? The ZuneInsider, Cesar Menendez, hinted at it in our interview with him, but what are all the perks? Ever wonder what it's like to work on the Zune Team? Ever wonder how The 2nd generation Zune was developed? Well, I recently stumbled upon a site that gives the goods on all this and more! It's called View<myworld>.com and if you click to read more, you'll get the scoop!
What are the perks to working for Microsoft? Well for starters, there's FREE Starbucks - all you can drink! Flex scheduling so it's never 9 to 5 and more! Check out THIS VIDEO to see more! And what about the Zune Team? View<myworld> highlights one of the individuals lucky enough to be a part of the Zune Team and gives some very interesting insight into the world that makes Zune as cool as it is! His name is Hoop:
"Wroking on Zune feels different - the building is all about music. We have a DJ booth down in our atrium, and people DJ on Fridays. One of my cowrokers has a turntable on his desk next to his laptop. We've got hardcore audiophiles on the team - our testers have guitars under their desks. Shortly after the first release of the Zune Marketplace we began working on the next generation product. A few months in, I teamed up with a tester, a PM, and two developers to try something new. We had been working day and night towards the dream of v2 and yet still felt like we could be more productive. We discussed a number of ideas and the various types of technology we were using, and came up with an experiment. We asked our manager for permission to go 'off-the-grd' for a week to focus. and they agreed. So we disappeared for a week, and holed up in a conference room to follow our plan, cranking out code. It was hugely productive, we learned a ton, made some mistakes in the process, and ultimately came out with technology that helped move our service forward. It wasn't perfect, but it was a success. And it was an amazing experience to have the opportunity to go off and try something new with the full support of our product team and management. That's the type of thing that makes small teams like Zune really different."
This site is packed full of interesting material as well as information on how to apply to work for Microsoft! Do you have what it takes? What's the worst they could say? Very cool...
