Boy, you don’t see this everyday! A surprising article came out on AppleMatters.com in which Tanner Godarzi boldly makes the statement “Why The Zune Will Outdo The iPod,” and is ticking off a ton of iFanbois. Godarzi makes some interesting observations; the most prominent is that the Zune is simply consumer friendly hardware.
He goes on to point out, while the iPod may be better in terms of design and capabilities, the latest Zune generation is an example of how a product should be made in terms of support. Apple locks consumers into a “walled off garden” where older iPods are forgotten, and Apple would rather you buy newer versions to increase sales. In contrast, Godarzi applauds Microsoft for giving existing Zune owners access to new features that will be released with the newer devices via firmware and software updates.
And while Godarzi admits the Zune will not take over the iPod right now, he says Microsoft is positioning itself very well to take in burned iPod owners who are tired of Apple’s increasingly locked and proprietary platform. He sees Microsoft taking a different approach with the Zune having as much compatibility as possible with many other things (i.e. Xbox, Windows Media Center, ZuneSocial).
Godarzi ends by stating if Apple continues down the path their heading in, Microsoft will slaughter them!
