my goodness... the innanets going nuts about this update, and i can't find out why. the only reason to believe the hype would be if the new zune software is comparable to itunes (don't get me wrong im not an ifanboy, i have a zune) i just don't see what all the excitement is about

It all sounds cool but I think that text seems slightly big. Hopefully it doesn't take away from the custom backgrounds. Ya Know what I would like to see in future firmware updates. Support for playing music by "Year" just like Genre or Album.

I cannot wait! It's just killing me knowing what's coming, but not being able to experience it. It will just make it that much better when it does come out and people can start workin' on hacks and whatnot. haha, and kudos to the site for aiding me in the wait by providing frequent front page news story. I literally check this site about 5 or more times a day... usually about 15... always waiting to see when there's new news... now if I posted on here as much as I check it out, I'd be a Super Zuner... haha. Maybe I'll post more when the new firmware comes out. Who knows.

All this update does to improve the Zune 30 is give it a new interface that is a little improved
-wifi sync? (most people only have the zune sync cable and will be connected to their pcs anyways_
-more codec support? (only on zune v2 models)
-higher res tv out? (again only newer models)
-no 3x3 (now it's only the 3 rule, 3 plays and your done still useless)

this long overdue firmware update doesn't really add any useful features

they talk of codec support, and the wireless sync, they say you need to have the zune plugged in to a power source, my point was most people use their zune-pc cable to charge and don't use wifi sync cause their already hardwired to their library
and no i don't view the glass as half empty, i just put things in perspective, i don't understand how everybody can be so happy with this updat when is should have been like this or BETTER one year ago at the initial zune launch. i'll start getting excited when the firmware updates add features that are actually useful

you need the power source of something such as a dock for it to automatically sync. they've said you can manually wi-fi sync too.

People have to realise that It's not microsoft who are responsible for the 3 play limit (although I would rather it be 3 days, unlimited plays). Microsoft would be sued to hell and back by record companies if the Zune's media sharing was unrestricted. No, I don't like it, but that's reality. Stop complaining.

I wouldn't complain about the new features at all about the zune if I were any of you. First of all... it's FREE. Free upgrades are things you will NEVER get if you were to own an iPod. I'm very grateful

Thats like saying "play mp3s? get a computer and some speakers"
games and time are simple things people expect now that the ipod has set the bar. A simple solitaire, minsweeper, or anything would be something nice to pass the time when your listening to music on the bus or something, these are just simple things the mp3 users have almost come to expect now

honestly if you pass up a zune simply on the fact that your worried about a clock and or 2d games.. then you need to get your priorities in order.

honestly those are such minimal details that it shouldnt matter either way. sure they're convenient.. but if you pass up all the other features of a zune just because theres no clock, then you dont deserve a brain

I think people dont realize how big a deal the podcast support is. See, your complaining about the 3x3 rule, but what you dont realize, is that with podcast support you will have an unlimited tap to drm-free music, thousands and thousands of songs are played on Podcasts.

Me being a Podcaster, this is the one feature I am personally the most excited about. Especially since ive been needing to change my RSS url anyway, now I can submit my new one to Zune and leave my old one at iTunes, which I dont care about updating anyway.

I really don't see the big deal with games. I've handeled a million iPods in my life and in my opinion the games stink. I don't know anyone who bought an iPod because of the games...Who needs them when you have 30 gigs of movies and music?

So let me pose this question. I understand that the wifi sync only works if the zune is supplied with AC power from the plug in adapter. But let's say I have a laptop that doesn't run my zune sync, but just supplies the USB port to charge my zune. If my zune is plugged in via USB on the non-marketplace running laptop, can I use the wifi sync?

okay i've already said that you dont absolutely need AC power according to Zune's site. you can manually sync it too. its just automatic if you have it powered..

In most instances, yes. With each progressive update, the hacks had to be rehashed due to new lines of code implemented. That's why you see the H&M team going crazy trying to get at the new software! I'd say in a week or two, we'll already see revised hacks out there (if not sooner)...
