Just when you thought the new Zune models, software, and firmware would put an end to much of the criticism us Zune fans have endured over the past year, you come across something like this....
That's right, Popular Mechanics is saying the Zune was the 8th worst gadget in 2007 behind the likes of Apple TV and some random obscure items. While I would agree Apple TV, which ended up as the second worst, was a major flop, the Zune on the other hand, while not having the most glorious showing this year, fared considerably well and definitely didn't deserve this nomination considering the refreshing update just a month ago. More after the break:
What did it have that the iPod
didn’t? The ability to temporarily share songs with others Zunes. Of
course, this interesting feature was crippled by a three-play or
three-day expiration (whichever came first). Microsoft also had the
questionable logic of offering the brick-shaped device in brown. Writes Erik Sofge. Even Gizmodo, who has taken their own share of shots at the Zune, writes a rather defensive article in favor of the Zune: This is sensationalism to the max. Zune 2 is the worst of the year,
really? Are sure it's not at the very least second best? This is stuff
that might not have lived up to the editors' high expectations, but
it's not the "worst" by any stretch of the imagination.
The article made GotZune.com writer Chris Leckness shell out his 'Idiot of the Day ' award to Mr. Sofge. Yep Erik, the Zune isn’t to many what the iPod is, but how in the hell
does that make the Zune (Gen 1 or 2) one of the 10 Worst Gadgets of
2007...your labeling the Zune the #8 worst Gadget of 2007 shows me you are clueless.
How 'bout you? What do you think? If you ask me, PM just dropped a couple notches in my book. ; )
