A little after a one year partnership between Microsoft and MTV, who teamed up to bring us Urge.com to Windows Media Player 11, the two are going their own separate ways.

urgeMTV is to announce in a press conference today that they will be merging with RealNetworks’ Rhapsody music service and closing Urge.com.

Microsoft is going to continue to support Zune instead. Many contribute the breakup to Microsoft’s lessening support for PlayForSure, the old-school DRM, which was the basis of Urge’s digital downloads.  Microsoft  is now turning its attention to improvements in Zune with new models and features expected this holiday season.Could this mean Zune to be supported by Windows Media Player in the future? We all shall see…Cool
