Microsoft Insists Zune is Fine
January 27, 2009 by ACE
The Zune is not going away. For the second time this month Adam Sohn, the Zune’s director of marketing, has gone on the defensive on wild speculation that the Zune’s days are numbered and even says there are NEW Zunes on the way this year!
…….."Every time anything comes up, there is a set of people who pull a Chicken Little and say, ‘The Sky is Falling. Zune is dead,’ " he said. "The fact is we are on track to deliver the next generation of Zune innovation in software and hardware.""The planning is fast and furious," he said. "We will deliver progress this calendar year."
He attributes the drop in sales of Zune devices to nothing more than a market-driven down-turn coupled with Zune’s limited availability (in North America Only).
Well, this is exactly what we thought, and Sohn does mention that the PDMP category is shrinking so as expected, he’s forshadowing the migration of Zune to other platforms.

Microsoft will kill something off, if it seems feasible. But they will try to incorporate pieces of it elsewhere, so it's not a total loss. I have no idea what the future holds for the Zune, but if it does not meet the expectations that Microsoft expects (whatever that is), it could very well be spun into other technologies - I'm thinking Windows Mobile, Windows Media Player and Smartphones.
