Zune Update Round-Up!
January 26, 2010 by Dilpickle1
Remember this post about the maintenance? I had mentioned there would not be any new features in the software update, but I was wrong. What new features did we get? I’m here to answer that. Remember, that if I am missing something, feel free to mention it and I’ll add it to the post. Here we go…

- The playlist tiles in the software have changed from pink to a black gradient. Don’t believe that the Zune Team listens to us? Check out this tweet, by Zune MVP @Solar257 telling Zune that we would like it to be changed. It was also mentioned by a few other Zune owners that they didn’t like the pink for various reasons, not to mention this thread on our forums.
- The Zune Software now recognizes, and plays .avi files, but they still need to be converted in order to be synced to the device. That will be fixed in the spring update for the ZuneHD I’m sure.
- More hints that a Zune phone is coming? You can see in these threads that this isn’t the only hint we have had at a Zune phone.
- Microsoft also has made it easier (for people with windows 7) to find their podcasts, by adding a new library for them (don’t know what libraries are? Click here). Now, instead of clicking through to wherever your Zune media folder is located, you can just go to your libraries and find it there. Very nice addition to the software.
- Not everything in the update was good, UK blog My Microsoft Life reports that features that were previously available for people outside of the states were removed, seems like only features related to Zune’s online services.
Of course, there are probably a few bug fixes, but those are still being found.

.avi conversion seems a bit buggy on my version. It's been converting for the past hour.
