Use the Zune HD on a Mac

September 16, 2009 by ACE

Sure, this isn’t a free way (it’ll cost ya around $160), but this way is much faster and easier to use than BootCamp. Forget dual booting and access Windows apps right from the desktop! Using VMWare Fusion makes it really simple! See the video below:

I don't understand it. Were people not able to use VMWare before to use the Zune software?

Yeah, but a lot of them would rather whine about no Mac support.

The Pirate Bay was not the only place to find things for free.

A much better method than this would be to use the free program VirtualBox to run the Zune client on your mac desktop in seamless mode.
Learn more her and see screenshots.

x2 on Virtualbox. This is what I used on my Ubuntu system, to access my Zune HD. I even updated the firmware using this method, with no issues.

I run Linux (Ubuntu). I just switched from Vista, and suddenly realized that I had left myself without support from my 120. After looking around, I found VirtualBox. I had an old XP disk, so I installed it all.

It all works great. The only complaint is that for the Zune (and seemingly, only the zune) USB 2.0 support is nonexistant. You have to use USB 1.0, which really only means that the transfer speed is a lot slower. Other than that, I heartily recommend VirtualBox (also for the seamless mode mentioned before, which makes using the software MUCH easier).

I just got a ZuneHD, and it works perfectly (aside from the aforementioned USB issue, which might change in the future).

Oh, about wine(mentioned a few posts up): While it works with most other apps, wine does not work at all with the Zune Software.
