ZuneHD - Xbox Portable in Disguise?

April 15, 2009 by Charge

Forget funner, how about simply better? The new ZuneHD may do more than just break bad grammar, it may break paradigms!

Weve heard a lot about Tegra Graphics - (here)and (here) and the about Wireless Downloads (here) and now this about Halo (here) and (here) but what about this…

Remember the stories about maybe, a Xbox Portable Device? Well its resurfaced. If you think about all the things this, "ZuneHD" includes, It could well be a Portable Games Console. Think about it, Halo? High Quality Graphics? Wireless Downloads? (Xbox Arcade Games).

This could be a load of nonsense, but what if hey?

Quote:

New rumours around the Zune HD suggest the new Microsoft PMP could come with XNA support. In other words, it might even run Xbox Live games: are we looking at the fabled Xbox Portable in disguise?

Gaming site Safety’s Off has it that the Zune HD will feature better XNA (Microsoft’s games development tool kit) support. If true, it means Microsoft is gearing up the Zune HD to take on the iPod touch as a gaming device, and it would seem to be backed up by the rumours of a Halo mobile game.

We’ve been told time and again that there’s no Xbox Portable coming, but if this rumour proves true, it could set the Zune HD up as an Xbox Portable in everything but name.

Microsoft really does need to make this reality to compete with Apple (and other companies) in the handheld gaming area...

if they make it run those xbox games, they will have no problem marketing it.

To be honest if they sell it as in Xbox, they'll get more sales then if they'd sell it as a Zune, knida sad but true.

prolly true, but what I'm hoping happens is a paradigm shift (everyone's idea of Zune completely changes).

I think I need to change my underwear. Zune (in HD) with Xbox Live....sweet. It's is true, if Zune is ever going to be the Ipod killer, it will take something gargantuan and cutting edge.

This might do it or at least come close.

At least we know it will have 3d capibilities. One game I think would be a cool port is warcraft. (not the rpg)

I would much rather have Microsoft come out with an actual portable gaming machine than use the Zune HD as one, you can see with the ipod touch that controls aren't very good on full touchscreen devices and they aren't very comfortable to hold if you're going to be gaming for a few hours. It would be fun for smaller games, but I don't like the idea of using the Zune HD as their mobile gaming platform.

Thats insane.... Wonder what is actually true here. Hopefully the gaming experience is improved with better games, functionality, ways to make the games(XNA) and graphics,.... AS well as movies on the Zune and an improved video experience, ways to buy, view them, etc. The Zune will definitley be taking a step in the right direction in the aspect of "killing the Ipod",, and that is what most of us Zune Users want to happen...

It depends, I have had both Gen of NDS and played psp and I have to say that they are not very comfortible to hold sometimes too.

this would be amazing.
but i doubt that it will play games like that.
i have no doubt that there will be some sort of "xbox portable" before i'm in my thirties(im 14 now), but this soon, i think it won't be, but it sure could be a step in the right direction

I hope that post can be absolutely trusted.

For all we know, MS will change some things just to keep people guessing, and we aren't really supposed to know anything...

I really will want a 120 gig one...
I won't have the money...

EDIT : how are they actually planning to cool this bad boy(Tegra) because i don't want it to have any RROD or errors of that type in the future...

It would be a bad idea for Microsoft to give out false information... This hype is great advertising for the Zune, but if they are lying, it will hurt the Zune later.

So the information is finally being given directly by MS, and not being leaked?

In that case, I feel much better.

"We've got the green light to go ahead and share the specs that our sources within Microsoft have confirmed to us."

Not directly, but I am pretty sure that the two people that wrote that article would not make things up. They have a good reputation that I am sure they would not risk being tarnished.
