Concept UI for Windows Phones out of Nokia

Nokia has held a greater degree of power in the relationship with Microsoft than other manufacturers have as a result of their near exclusive partnership. Way back when the partnership was fresh it was made known that Nokia had certain liberties with how they used Windows Phone, even extending to the UI. It is not until recently that we've seen anything of the sort, but PocketNow has provided us with some concepts thought up over at Nokia.

You can check out all the images released over here. Keep in mind that these are just concepts, not something contracted with the intention of production, and the person responsible for making them has been shifted over into work on Symbian. This is certainly the appropriate place for this work. It's not that the concepts are necessarily bad or ugly or anything else, but what they are not is Windows Phone. The great thing about Windows Phone is that no matter what phone you have, you get the same great experience. When people start tinkering with the design so drastically, we stray into the snares that have populated the Android ecosystem and have made it so difficult to get a unified experience across platforms. The closer everyone stays to the basic Metro experience, the better. Nokia's Chief Technology Officer Rich Greene states that "There are so many places to innovate, it is critically important to provide the greatest opportunity for you the developer, you build once and everybody gets it, when you create more and more variance it becomes a hindrance. We also want customers to move between devices, preferably towards Nokia devices, but move between devices and not to hinder that in any fashion. The hardware and additional services we can offer will bring people to us, but if there are unfamiliar with a different environment, there may be a barrier to that, so why do it?" It's safe to say these designs won't be making their way to any Windows Phone anytime soon, but at they least they certainly are fancy.

I'm glad to see that nokia is starting to experiment with the ui like this it may not be the default metro look but it will help users adopt wp7 if they have different ui's to choose from rather than just metro kinda like android does and how each vendor has their own ui style/twist

That "twist" is also part of what makes it so hard for updates to get out. Large percentages of the population are still using versions of Android released years ago.
